My name is Hannah Lou Rupprecht, and I live in south central Nebraska on a family ranch with my husband, baby boys, dogs, horses and cows. In 2020, we built our new little ranch house on our slice of Webster county that we purchased in 2019. We have a small cow/calf operation where we raise some commercial cattle, and Charolais bulls and replacement heifers, start colts, train barrel and ranch horses, and rodeo. I am a barrel racer, and my husband is a man of many talents in and outside the arena.
Let’s talk about him first–my husband, Lukas, is a hard working hunk of a man, and is a cowboy thru and thru. Not the cowboy that just loads up to go to rodeos on the weekends, but the kind of real cowboy, you know, like John Wayne. Quiet, resourceful, amazing with animals, and just an all around pearl snap wearing great guy. He challenges me every day to think differently, and I’m glad God put him in my life to do life with. Oh, yeah, and besides being a totally authentic cowboy hottie, he also is in a band, so I totally crush over my very own version of Eric Church from time to time. Like I said, he’s a man of many talents, and quite frankly the man of my dreams. I know I sometimes forget to tell him that, so I’m putting it in writing.
I grew up in a small town in Missouri and ridden horses my whole life, so I’m a Nebraska transplant, but have lived here now for 10 years! My two horses (Barney and Jake) and my dog Wrangler and I moved up here in the summer of 2012. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I have been a horse girl all my life, but had no idea what ranch life was like until I met Lukas! Boy, has that sure been an exciting adventure. I have been blessed to learn from some amazing, hardworking, ranch wives that I admire whole-heartedly. Rural America is not for everyone, but I wouldn’t want to raise my boys anywhere else.
Not only am I a ranch wife, I also work full time and am a momma of two to Rodey George and Ransom John. Rodey George will be 4 very soon and Ransom John will be 2 in July! Ransom is a spitting image of his momma and Rodey is a spitting image of his daddy. Right now our life is complete–but who knows we may add one more to the mix eventually!
I graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2012 with a BS’ in Ag Education Leadership with a minor in sales and marketing. I have worked in agricultural sales for over ten years. I am currently working on my masters in Industrial Organizational Psychology. I enjoy helping growers continue to find solutions for their operations and enjoy being out in the country side helping feed America.
And on top of all that, I am also a barrel racer. I have been riding horses and barrel racing since I was 4 years old. The life I grew up knowing and continue to live is so much the root of my confidence (and sometimes lack of), the overall tenacity I have, and the resiliency I embrace to keep on keeping on and to always strive for more. I have had times in my career of barrel racing where I was on the last ounce of faith I had and then suddenly a break through occurred. For most of my life, I have just claimed to be a jockey, however since having kiddos and being closer to home in this chapter, I’ve felt the calling to get going on the training route, I’ve been blessed with some nice young horses, and some have now gone on to their new jockey’s and are having success. It’s fun to see a horse you helped build go on with another person and succeed! I have two horses to derby on the next couple of years, and enjoy Jake as he finishes out his career.
The skill sets I have learned from being a competitor armors me daily in the many hats I wear: mom, wife, ag-professional, friend, etc. I am thankful for all the life lessons I have learned and continue to learn in that sport and this industry, and I’m sure it’ll come up in my writing.
So, let’s see, other things: I am a big believer in self growth (ha, reason I’m sharing my crazy life), books, love, peace, music, good food, beer, traveling, and communicating. That’s just some of my favs. I’m excited to share more with you.
To be continued..
xoxo,
-H
